Alana Solomon, native of Reidsville, N.C., U.S.A., resides in Wilmington, N.C., U.S.A. As a graduate of East Carolina University School of Art, she received a Bachelor of Fine Art in Graphic Design, Illustration, and Photography. Alana is the owner and master artist extraordinaire of Just Faux Fun, Inc., based in Wilmington, N.C., U.S.A., specializing in custom finishes, hand-painted murals, artfully-unique painted furniture, restoration and repairs of antiques and artwork, and much, much, more. Creativity is a bottomless well so long as you stay in touch with the Original Creator. His supplies never run out and His imagination is infinite. Why just look at His ever changing sky schematic collection alone!
Drop cloths, brushes, paint tubes, buckets, tape, and ladders; “These are a few of my favorite things,” Alana Solomon of Just Faux Fun, Inc. continues, “Piles of canvases, frames, and gold leaf are things I never have enough!” she said. “My favorite college professor taught me to break out of my comfort zone. He had all the students bring sticks to class instead of paintbrushes. He said anything from nature we could bring, just not traditional artist tools. Then he held a stop watch and said ‘Go!’ He was the kind of professor, you just knew you better have something on your canvas when he said ‘Stop!’,” continued Alana. “He changed my perspective forever, I have never been the same! I was finally FREE!”, exclaimed Alana. Just Faux Fun, Inc. and Alana Solomon are still painting up a storm.

Alana is on a rampage making funky-fun, one-of-a-kind artwork that is as fun to touch as it is to look at. Alana loves to layer textures and colors, patterns and splatters, pulling imagery out of the worshak-like terrains. Alana says it takes her back to her childhood when art was fun, with no rules, like cloud watching. She allows serendipity to take the superior role guiding her in the creative process and always encouraging her to let go of control and flow with the fun and frivolity of happy accidents. It’s a kind of “hands-on/ hands-off” balancing act. The results are always surprising and extremely gratifying. “What is really fun,” she says, “is to incorporate some abstract, some non-objective and some small doses of realism in one piece of artwork. Your eyes travel through the painting stirring the imagination and logical processes. This allows the viewer to linger longer.
The mind has more back and forth dialogue and stimulus than it would with an average straightforward painting that is mentally and emotionally processed instantaneously at a glance. These are the visual and mental creative adventures that travel outside the realm of photography and digital sterility. Nothing transports a grown-up back to their youth like getting in the paint with both hands! Paint-covered hands, twigs, feathers and any non-traditional tool can revert the most uptight adult artist back to their childhood where their love for art first began.”
